Discussion intensifies over proposed Vande Bharat train between Samastipur and Varanasi, which may improve fast and modern rail connectivity for passengers in Bihar if approved.
Samastipur / Alam Ki Khabar:A fresh discussion regarding the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express train between Samastipur and Varanasi is gaining momentum, raising expectations among rail passengers in Bihar. Although there has been no official confirmation from Indian Railways yet, the proposal has already sparked widespread interest among daily travelers, commuters, and local stakeholders.
If approved, the proposed service is expected to significantly reduce travel time between north Bihar and the religious and cultural hub of Varanasi, offering a faster, more comfortable, and modern travel experience.
Growing Demand for Direct Connectivity
The demand for a direct high-speed train between Samastipur and Varanasi has been pending for a long time. Local passengers and public representatives have repeatedly raised the issue in various railway review meetings, highlighting the need for improved connectivity between these two important regions.
At present, passengers often depend on connecting trains or longer routes, which increases travel time and inconvenience. The proposed Vande Bharat service is expected to resolve this long-standing issue if included in upcoming railway planning schedules.
Possible Route and Operational Plan
According to early discussions, if a new Vande Bharat Express is introduced on this corridor, it may follow a route similar to the Independence Fighter Express line. This would ensure smoother connectivity through key stations and benefit passengers from Samastipur and surrounding districts.
Currently, one Vande Bharat Express already operates in Bihar, running between Jogbani and Danapur via Muzaffarpur. The addition of another service on a different route would further strengthen Bihar’s high-speed rail network.

The first Vande Bharat Express in India was launched on 15 February 2019 between New Delhi and Varanasi. Since then, the network has expanded rapidly, with more than 160 services now operating across different parts of the country.
This expansion reflects Indian Railways’ focus on modernization and improving long-distance travel efficiency. Bihar, being an important eastern state, has also been gradually included in this high-speed rail development program.
